Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole tells the story of Soren, a young owl enthralled by his father’s epic stories of the Guardians of Ga’Hoole, a mythic band of winged warriors who had fought a great battle to save all of owlkind from the evil Pure Ones. Based on the beloved series of books by Kathryn Lasky, Animal Logic has brought this world of warring owls to life for the big screen. Developed and produced over 3 years at Animal Logic’s studios in Sydney, Australia, Producer and CEO of Animal Logic Zareh Nalbandian amassed a team of 500+ artists, technicians and support staff to design, develop and execute one of the most ambitious and visually rich animated films of our time.
Conceived from the get-go in 3D stereoscopic, every detail from the diverse range of owl species with detailed feathers and expressive eyes, to epic landscapes and complex environments, and ground breaking visual effects and lighting were carefully crafted to ensure the audience would be transported to the world of Ga’Hoole and feel as though they are flying with Soren and his band of brave owls (and one snake!).
Director Zack Snyder was instantly drawn to the film when he saw the Animal Logic concept art in 2007. Snyder’s distinctive style makes for an animated movie that’s at the same time thrilling, full of warmth and character and breathtakingly beautiful. The adventure and intense battle scenes make Legend of the Guardians unique, enhanced by the mesmerizing visuals and compelling performances by a talented cast including Geoffrey Rush, Jim Sturgess, Ryan Kwanten, Emily Barclay, David Wenham, Anthony La Paglia, Helen Mirren, Hugo Weaving, Joel Edgerton, Sam Neill, Miriam Margoyles, Abbie Cornish and more.
Animal Logic’s team of artists designed, created and animated 15 unique species of owls as well as many other forest animals and creatures such as snakes, crows, bats, centipedes, bees, beetles, bugs, moths, a hermit crab, a Tasmanian Devil, and of course, an echidna. Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole is a Warner Bros picture presented in association with Village Roadshow Pictures and is a Animal Logic and Village Roadshow Production.
