Procedural Modeller
- Netflix Animated Feature Film

Location: Vancouver

We are looking for Modelling artists for environments, props and vehicles to work with us on an upcoming animated feature!

We are especially interested in Modellers with experience generating procedural geometry using Houdini.

What you’ll get to do:

  • Work within our USD-based pipeline to create models and environments appropriate for use in an animated feature film
  • Turn 2D designs, 3D digital sculpts or verbal briefs into production-ready 3D models while maintaining the original artistic intent
  • Leverage your Houdini knowledge and Animal’s proprietary tools to generate procedural geometry, from scattered pebbles, to parametric plants and trees, to the layout of entire neighborhoods
  • Distribute and share knowledge regularly to assist in the ongoing development of innovative tools and or techniques for procedural modeling
  • Assist with the training and mentoring of less-experienced modeling artists as required
  • Ensure that your work is produced to appropriate standards of quality within the schedule

What you bring:

  • 3+ years of experience modelling within a VFX or Animated Feature pipeline
  • Professional-level proficiency with Maya
  • MEL/Python scripting a plus
  • Experience with procedural modelling in Houdini, SpeedTree and/or Marvelous Designer
  • Solid understanding of proper edge flow and polygon density appropriate to a feature-level production
  • Solid understanding of the topological requirements of subdivision surface for both static and deforming models
  • Solid understanding of optimal uv layout for surfacing
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • An ability to abstract and interpret a design brief down to its fundamentals
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
