‘The film mixes computer animation with outrageous decor to provide a crazily romantic, mock operatic world…’ – Andrew O’Hagan, The Daily Telegraph, London.

Animal Logic created over 300 visual effects for Director Baz Luhrmann’s cinematic spectacle Moulin Rouge!, including the computer generated construction of Paris itself. In both scale and complexity, this film consolidated Animal Logic’s reputation on the international stage.

‘An impressive mix of modern music and computer generated scenes of Belle Epoque Paris.’ -Marie-Noelle Tranchant, Le Figaro.

The brief for building a 3D construction of Paris was not to actually recreate Paris, but rather to create a mythical world in which this story could take place – a ‘real artificiality’, where visual expectations were raised and belief suspended.

Although the Animal Logic team had to create the entire city, it took great pains to pay close attention to small details, such as the addition of moving flags, shimmering water, fire hydrants, chimney smoke and people standing on the tower. This world also includes a train station built entirely in 3D.

The Absinthe Green Fairy is an intoxicating vision. Australian entertainer Kylie Minogue brought her petite frame and sparkling presence to the role. The rest of the magic was up to Animal Logic.

“THE GREATEST THING YOU'LL EVER LEARN IS JUST TO LOVE AND BE LOVED IN RETURN”
