  •  Support Engineer

    We're looking for an enthusiastic and outgoing person to join our IT Support team in our LA office. You will be working with a vast and complex array of technologies for one of the world's leading visual effects and animation studios.  You will work out of Venice/Hollywood/Burbank locations and also interface with our Sydney and Vancouver studios.  The majority of the work will be face-to-face with producers/head of departments and will require some email correspondence with our Sydney support team during their business hours.  Ideal candidate should have knowledge of the animation production process, excellent communication and follow-up skills, understanding of the demands of production, and have a willingness to support production as dictated by their schedules.
     
     
    Duties and responsibilities include:
     
    • Provide 1st/2nd level technical support.
    • Assist in the planning and implementation of additions, deletions and major modifications to the supporting local infrastructure.
    • Follow IT procedures as established by the Sydney studio.
    • Oversee the administration and maintenance of the company's Los Angeles infrastructure, including workstations, servers, storage, network, tape backups and video equipment.
    • Ensure the reliable and efficient handling of video media and image data to meet the needs of staff and clients through all service areas (transfer, duplication, display, editing, archiving).
    • Maintain video & data capture & transfer systems (Mac, PC or other).
    • Perform maintenance on a broad range of video equipment, including display set-ups and alignment through to cabling and routing, if required.
    • Manage the company's IP telephone and Video Conferencing systems at the local level.
    • Occasional requirement to perform after hours and/or weekend support.
    • Relocation of IT equipment (moving machine/s, monitors etc).
    • Ensure that asset management, licensing, OH&S, and other company policies are being adhered to.
    • Get quotes and manage vendors as required
    • Assist with project tasks driven by the Sydney studio.
    • Generate and maintain both internal and end user documentation, as required.
    • Take calls from Editorial when issues arise and respond appropriately;
    • Strong knowledge of and experience with Avid Media Composer;
    • Escalate issues to vendors if required;
    • Assistance with daily office duties:  includes phone coverage, opening/closing of the office, office moves, etc.; position is considered part of the office administration rotation (when coverage is necessary).

    Requirements:

    To be successful in this role, the following will be required:
     
    • Must have relevant technical skills and experience
    • Previous experience in either a senior support role or mid-level system engineering role
    • Must have strong communication skills
    • Strong troubleshooting skills
    • Linux, Windows and OSX Operating System exposure.
    • Networking and connectivity skills
    • MAC/PC maintenance and software installation
    • Installation and upgrading of MAC/PC hardware
    • Film/VFX Industry experience, a plus.

  •  Art Department Junior Artist - LEGO® 2

    We are currently looking for a Junior Artist to join our team in Vancouver! The Junior Artist will be able to cover a range of specialist skills, including decals, model packaging, colour boards, character design, props and environment design, and key lighting frames.
     

    Key Responsibilities Include:

    • Understand the projects creative objectives
    • Research and source as required any imagery to help with the production of the concept art

    We are looking for an Assembly TD to join the team for our first Animated Feature in Vancouver! The Assembly team is a small, but critical role in Production, where an eye for detail is key! 

    As one of the Asset gatekeepers, you will help maintain the “shot breakdown” - facilitating distribution of assets between various departments, with a special emphasis on supporting the Layout and Animation teams.
     
    Key Responsibilities include:

    • Partner with Layout to troubleshoot shot set-ups/builds and QC

You will be ingesting shots and conforming edits as well as outputting scene deliveries and reference edits to production. This role will be reporting to Artist Management and the 1st Assistant Editor.

The position involves interpreting a variety of media from Concept Art and creating applicable, working 3D models back into the pipeline ready for utilization from other departments. This is a fulltime, contract role that reports to Artist Management and the Modelling Supervisor.

     
    Key Responsibilities Include:

    • Utilize software such as Maya, UV Layout, Z-Brush, and LDD to produce high quality work.
    • Produce complex models to a high standard with a thorough understanding of shape, scale and form for both LDD and Maya models
    • Work within/produce - topology/wire frame, turntables, character and/or environment
    • Produce accurate UVs for models for use in downstream departments
    • Interact with tracking systems and production staff
    • Interpret 2D designs and translate them into 3D space while maintaining the original artistic intent
    • Produce highly optimized meshes that can be rendered and displayed efficiently for downstream departments such as Rigging, Layout and Lighting

    Animal Logic is looking for a Lighting TD who will develop and build upon the Lighting pipeline and systems. The Lighting TD should be prepared to write helper and pipeline tools to support the lighting team and their process. They will be responsible for varying levels of pipeline troubleshooting, user support, technical direction and lighting/output tool development. This is a fulltime, contract role that reports to the Lighting Supervisor and Artist Management.

    Key Responsibilities Include:
    • Understand the visual requirements for the film, and design procedures and techniques that will enable these to be met
    • Provide solutions to visual problems through existing tools or by leading development of new tools
    • Assist Artists with day to day issues and glitches and eventually escalating those issues through the right channels when they aren't immediately addressable
    • Understand the processes of adjoining departments (eg. surfacing, assembly) and provide input where required to maximise efficiency and quality
    • Implements strategies/efficiencies in the use of disk space and/or render requirements
    • Provide input to the shading department to ensure that the requirements of surfacing and lighting are met in all shading development
    • Maintaining a clean common facility pipeline (tools, automation, practices) across multiple shows at the same time
    • Communicate and promote repeatable, pipeline based workflows that will ensure data security and efficiency throughout the whole production
    • Identify and spec department software requirements; discuss these with RnD leads and distribute them to internal software TD’s

Work collaboratively with the Vancouver Department Supervisors, Sydney Department TDs and R&D teams to ensure a common and standardized approach to the workflow, tool development and support. This role is a full time contract role that reports directly to Artist Management and CG Supervisors.

     

    Key Responsibilities Include:

     

    • Responsible for creative problem solving in relation to complex pipelines and assets, user support, environment and character pipeline development, environment shot assembly and technical direction
    • Take responsibility for the optimization of the workflow of the department
    • Work closely with the Department Supervisor to research and develop department specific tools, maintain existing tools and plan for the future show/studio needs

The Render Supervisor will be responsible for managing the delivery of data to and from production, managing render priorities and storage resources, as well as leading and mentoring the Render team. This is a fulltime, permanent role that reports to the Head of IT.

    • Work with digital artists to ensure the smooth delivery of final rendered CG elements for animation of the film

    • Experience on feature films and/or animated features

    The Master of Animation and Visualisation (MAV) is an opportunity for artists, software developers and technical professionals to develop their existing specialist creative skills. This degree has been co-designed and developed as part of the University of Technology (UTS) Animal Logic Academy (ALA), a dynamic collaboration between UTS and world-leading digital production, animation and visual effects studio Animal Logic. It is designed to respond to the increasing critical industry demand for graduates with expertise in these fields. Participants will graduate as the ‘smart creatives’ and visualisation practitioners of the future.

    As a post graduate level Master Degree you will need to bring existing skills to the table. You will need to demonstrate your level of skill and/or experience in animation, visualisation or related technologies so showing a portfolio of work or providing documentation of your programming skills and experience in a digital content production environment is essential.     The Animal Logic Roto Training course is an unpaid 4 week full time course held in our Studio located in Fox Studios Australia.

    This program is designed to fill our need for Roto trainees on future projects.  It is Nuke based and allows people to progress naturally onto a Compositing 2D based career path. 

    The course is Roto based, but basic compositing techniques, tracking, keying and a bit of the 3D camera system is covered too.  We will also cover 3D stereo techniques as this is skill set that is required for many projects.

    Knowledge of Nuke is handy but not necessary.  We tend to look for art based skills rather than technical based software skills.

    Whilst we conduct this training during downtime at the studio, it is also in preparation for possible upcoming projects.  However, completing this training does not guarantee you a role on our next project and unfortunately we cannot guarantee when the next project will commence.
